DIS Reduced Maintenance & Manpower Costs with MIG Powered Remote Monitoring & Control System
Digital Information System (DIS), a manufacturer of industrial access control gates, partnered with the MIG platform to enhance the reliability and efficiency of their gate systems. These gates are typically installed in remote mining and power plant sites across five states in India, where manual maintenance posed significant challenges. The existing systems lacked connectivity, making it impossible to acquire maintenance data or monitor system health in real-time.
DIS faced several issues, including high labor costs, time-consuming repairs, and difficulty identifying faulty components. Regular maintenance was inefficient, and without data-driven insights, it was challenging to optimize operations or preempt equipment failures.
To solve these problems, DIS collaborated with the MIG team to upgrade their gates with IoT-enabled control systems. Together, they identified critical data points across electrical and electro-mechanical components. An initial trial deployment of five smart gates was carried out, and over three months, valuable operational data was collected and analyzed.
This integration allowed DIS to establish a performance baseline, enabling predictive maintenance and more informed decision-making. As a result, the company reduced maintenance costs, improved visibility into system health, optimized labor allocation, minimized spare part inventory, and significantly enhanced service delivery and customer satisfaction.
AWS IoT capable hardware platform
This indigenously built IoT platform is capable of supervisory data acquisition, AWS IoT server communication and control command processing/forwarding.
The hardware platform is based on PIC32MX & PIC32MZ.
Data acquisition supports a range of sensors like barometric air pressure, humidity, ambient air temperature, air quality, ultrasonic range finder, multi-axis accelerometer, etc. Server communication is supported by connectivity options like WiFi – MRF24WG0MA, ATWINC1500 & Ethernet – LAN8740, ENC28j60, ENC624J600.
The hardware could be configured both locally & remotely.
